I had an unusual weekend, this Sunday. A day soaked in tears. Tears of two helpless parents, whose only son lie unconscious in a bed in the CCU ward of APOLLO HOSPITALS, Chennai. Machineries trying to breathe life into him. They have come all the way from Tripura, to this hitherto unknown place to them, with only hope of keeping alive their next generation. Every word they speak comes shakily through a choked throat. Their eyes puffed and bloodshot, out of anxious sleepless nights. Pranab. A guy you meet and then you will ever forget. He was two years junior to me in college. Having resided in the same hostel we were very close. We had a brotherly relation partly because of his respect and partly for the inherent charm he possessed. Energetic, lovable, caring, down to earth and a happy go lucky guy. These were the qualities that made him closer to his seniors and fellow friends alike. Pranab is today struggling for life. He is away from the ULTIMATE by a whisker. He is fighting SLE (SYSTEMIC LUPUS ERYTHEMATOSUS), in which body’s immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissue. There is no cure of SLE. The goal of the treatment is to control symptoms . Pranab's father is retired army personnel, managing the family with his megre pensions. All his savings have exhausted including the auspicious nuptial jewellery of Pranab’s mom. The condition of Pranab has shaken me, from deep within. As a brother of pranab I am taking this little initiative of extending helping hand to his parents, at this cruciall juncture of time.
